In the footsteps of giants
Marangu is the oldest, most established route on Kilimanjaro. Sleep in comfortable huts, share stories with fellow trekkers, and wake up to unforgettable views of Kibo peak.
JRO → Arusha
Arrive at Kilimanjaro airport. Meet your representative and transfer to your hotel in Arusha. Relax, prepare, and meet your guide for a pre‑trek briefing. Overnight at Arusha Planet Lodge (BB).
Marangu Gate → Mandara Hut
After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate (1,860m). Begin trek through lush montane forest to Mandara Hut (2,700m). Approx. 5–6 hours. Dinner and overnight at the hut. (B,L,D)
Mandara Hut → Horombo Hut
Trek through open moorland, with glimpses of Mawenzi peak. Arrive at Horombo Hut (3,720m). Afternoon acclimatisation walk. (B,L,D)
Acclimatisation day at Horombo
A free day to hike to Mawenzi Ridge or Zebra Rocks, then return to the hut. Essential for proper acclimatisation. (B,L,D)
Horombo Hut → Kibo Hut
Cross the lunar landscape of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Reach Kibo Hut (4,703m). Early dinner and rest, preparing for summit night. (B,L,D)
Kibo Hut → Uhuru Peak → Horombo
Start around midnight: steep ascent to Gilman’s Point (5,681m) then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Descend to Horombo Hut for overnight. (B,L,D)
Horombo → Marangu Gate → Arusha
Descend through moorland and forest to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Arusha, dinner at leisure. (B,L)
Transfer to Kilimanjaro airport
After breakfast, transfer to JRO for your flight home — or continue with a safari extension. (B)

- • Porter pack weight limit: 15kg (35lbs). Extra porter $8/day for overweight.
- • Extra luggage can be stored at your Arusha hotel (valuables on receipt).
- • Arrive a day earlier to acclimate: add $80 single / $100 double / $150 triple (BB).
- • Optional Arusha NP day trip: $180pp (2+ pax), plus $35 for hiking.
